An American Pass Rush in London

Coffee, an AFC South grudge, and six roster spots that cannot all be filled with optimism.

Houston at Jacksonville · Wembley · Sunday, October 18, 2026 · 8:30 a.m. Central

Real stats. Questionable decisions.

Archived edition · October 18, 2026. Research and model lineups retain their original timestamps.

Sunday Pregame Update

Coffee poured. Six builds retained.

All selected players are available. No substitutions. Braden Smith is inactive; Jacksonville is missing Brown and Jaylon Jones, with Murray active and Bobenmoyer replacing Matiscik at long snapper.

Jordan’s elevation leaves room for shared backfield work behind Marks. Harrison’s debut keeps Noel’s routes uncertain. The market still favors Jacksonville by 2.5, with DraftKings/FanDuel at 42.5. Wembley’s forecast has showers, 8 mph sustained wind and gusts of 23–27 mph; Little’s kicking path carries extra uncertainty.

We keep the passing stories and Rambo’s rushing upset. The defense-Captain alternate remains our most speculative build. Official lists, weather and market sources are linked in the Research Drawer.

From the Editor’s Couch

Looks like I picked the wrong morning to quit sniffing glue.

Thursday’s Mile High Anxiety gave the editor another win in the model room: Han’s two public builds scored 93.62 and 98.02, against Rothstein’s 80.14 and 80.80. Rambo split the difference the hard way: 92.82 and 45.52.

The lesson travels: a believable score needs six believable jobs. One alternate falling apart is also a reminder that a character name does not pay for a missed role.

Now it’s London football before the Sunday chores. Read this Friday, revisit the news over the weekend, and leave room for breakfast. The editor sees a close Jaguars win. Wrench has brought a pass rush and an argument.

The Matchup

Same division. Different postcode.

Houston at Jacksonville · Wembley · Sunday, October 18 · 8:30 a.m. Central. Friday’s market snapshot remains JAX −2.5 / 42.5: 22.5 implied Jacksonville points, 20 for Houston. Sources.

The personnel department

Montgomery and Dell are out for Houston. Marks has the opening; the exact workload remains an assumption. Houston’s new receiver Harrison changes the target competition. Jacksonville is without tackle Anton Harrison, corner Montaric Brown and long snapper Ross Matiscik. Van Lanen and Murray have no game designation.

The British department

Jacksonville stayed in the UK; Houston’s trip began Thursday evening. That is preparation context, not a fixed travel penalty. Showers and gusts remain a watch point. Friday’s retrieved forecast did not provide a consistent kickoff-hour table, so precise rain and wind figures are withheld pending Sunday’s game-window check. Long kicks and passing-heavy builds remain sensitive to conditions.

Walker Little’s replacement start makes Houston’s pressure worth studying. Van Lanen’s full Friday practice also matters: a changed line is not an automatic collapse. Houston’s Trent Brown also practiced fully Friday without a game designation; Braden Smith was activated during the week but is inactive Sunday. Al-Shaair has no designation; Ingram and To’oTo’o are available Sunday, leaving defensive availability relevant to Rambo’s pressure story. Jacksonville’s missing corner supports investigating Collins’ opportunities, without awarding him catches in advance.

Why Male Models?

Three stories. Six ways to fill the morning.

Rothstein — Market Read. Han Solo — Editor’s Pick. Rambo — Wrench’s Pick. Wrench is our AI research sidekick. Core and Touchdown labels describe construction and field fit; they are not measured win rates.

Market Read

Rothstein

JAX 23–20
“There are three ways of doing things around here: the right way, the wrong way, and the way I do it.”

Jacksonville wins narrowly. Illustration: 23–20. The market supplies the scoring environment. Lawrence gets the Core multiplier; both quarterbacks and the tight ends collect the passing work.

What breaks it: Running backs finish the drives, Noel loses routes, or Jacksonville’s protection cannot sustain the passing volume.

Core Build — Smaller Field

Our central player assumptions within this story.

SlotPlayerSalary
CPTTrevor Lawrence$15,000
FLEXNico Collins$11,200
FLEXDalton Schultz$4,800
FLEXJaylin Noel$3,000
FLEXBrenton Strange$5,800
FLEXC.J. Stroud$9,600
TotalHOU 4 / JAX 2$49,400

Unused: $600.

Lawrence beats the same-six Collins-Captain version by only 0.38 points on the saved screenshot benchmark. That small gap is a comparison, not proof of safety. Noel buys the second quarterback and both tight ends.

Touchdown Bet — Large FieldNico Collins CPT · $49,600

Specific players get the touchdowns.

SlotPlayerSalary
CPTNico Collins$16,800
FLEXFoster Moreau$1,600
FLEXParker Washington$10,400
FLEXBrenton Strange$5,800
FLEXC.J. Stroud$9,600
FLEXCam Little$5,400
TotalHOU 3 / JAX 3$49,600

Unused: $400.

Nico catches Houston’s two touchdowns; Washington and Strange catch Jacksonville’s two, with three Little field goals. Moreau supplies savings and needs useful routes. The new long snapper and gusts make the kicking assumption a specific watch point. This preserves the saved Rothstein roster.

Editor’s Pick

Han Solo

JAX 24–21
“Never tell me the odds.”

Jaguars 24–21. Either team has chances to win. The editor thinks the market has the game about right, with Washington and Collins carrying their offenses. We place more receiving work through those two without pretending the editor called six passing touchdowns.

What breaks it: The backs take the scores, either lead receiver is spread out of the offense, or weather/pressure removes the yards these prices need.

Core Build — Smaller Field

Our central player assumptions within this story.

SlotPlayerSalary
CPTParker Washington$15,600
FLEXNico Collins$11,200
FLEXC.J. Stroud$9,600
FLEXBrenton Strange$5,800
FLEXDalton Schultz$4,800
FLEXJaylin Noel$3,000
TotalHOU 4 / JAX 2$50,000

Unused: $0.

Washington takes Captain alongside Collins and Stroud. Strange and Schultz supply supporting catches; Noel is the savings bridge. We omit Lawrence to keep five receiving roles around the Houston quarterback. Washington can lead fantasy scoring through catches and yards, without two touchdowns.

Touchdown Bet — Large FieldNico Collins CPT · $49,000

Specific players get the touchdowns.

SlotPlayerSalary
CPTNico Collins$16,800
FLEXParker Washington$10,400
FLEXTrevor Lawrence$10,000
FLEXDalton Schultz$4,800
FLEXJaylin Noel$3,000
FLEXBrian Thomas Jr.$4,000
TotalHOU 3 / JAX 3$49,000

Unused: $1,000.

Nico takes Captain; Lawrence pairs with Washington and Thomas on the other side. Swapping out Stroud gives room for Thomas instead of the $200 Jordan option and leaves $1,000. Collins must beat the quarterback we leave out. One concentrated 24–21 path: two Washington receiving TDs and a Tuten rushing TD plus a field goal; two Collins receiving TDs and a Marks rushing TD.

Wrench’s Pick

Rambo

HOU 24–17
“They drew first blood.”

Houston 24–17. Pressure changes where the points land. Montgomery’s absence gives Marks a larger workload path. Houston disrupts Jacksonville’s altered protection, creates shorter fields and finishes more drives on the ground. This is an upset scenario, not a claim that Jacksonville’s defense is weak.

What breaks it: Jacksonville protects well, its run defense suppresses Marks, or Washington and Lawrence turn the pressure into easy completions. The five-Houston Core concentrates its risk.

Our central player assumptions within this story.

SlotPlayerSalary
CPTWoody Marks$12,600
FLEXNico Collins$11,200
FLEXC.J. Stroud$9,600
FLEXBhayshul Tuten$8,600
FLEXDalton Schultz$4,800
FLEXJaylin Noel$3,000
TotalHOU 5 / JAX 1$49,800

Unused: $200.

Marks gets Captain with Collins and Stroud retaining Houston’s passing points. Tuten covers Jacksonville’s rushing finishes; Schultz and Noel complete the roster. The central ledger assigns Houston one passing and two rushing TDs plus a field goal. Marks faces a difficult defense; volume is the case, not an easy matchup.

Touchdown Bet — Large FieldTexans CPT · $49,800

Specific players get the touchdowns.

SlotPlayerSalary
CPTTexans$6,600
FLEXWoody Marks$8,400
FLEXParker Washington$10,400
FLEXTrevor Lawrence$10,000
FLEXBhayshul Tuten$8,600
FLEXBrenton Strange$5,800
TotalHOU 2 / JAX 4$49,800

Unused: $200.

Our most speculative build: it needs a defensive-touchdown path. The narrower branch replaces Houston’s passing TD with a Texans return TD: two rushing TDs, one defensive TD, three PATs and a field goal still total 24. No Collins or Stroud here. Lawrence, Washington and Strange need surviving Jacksonville passing volume; Tuten needs ground work. Opposing QB plus defense is a deliberate tradeoff: sacks/turnovers must coexist with passing yards. A defensive touchdown is an upside condition, not an assumed weekly entitlement.

We Were on a Break!

Six lineups. Several familiar faces.

Collins appears in five of six. Washington, Stroud, Strange, Schultz and Noel each appear in four. Lawrence appears in three. The Texans-Captain alternate leaves Collins and Stroud out; it changes the scoring dependency, rather than only the character name.

Noel is our biggest repeated role question. His price buys real premium access, but Harrison’s arrival can change his work. Moreau appears once and needs a small receiving role. Neither is justified by being cheap. A 50% Noel-role test and a zero-route Moreau test belong in the drawer.

Spend Like You Have a Mortgage: the six totals range from $49,000 to $50,000. Han’s alternate leaves $1,000 because the full combination works; unused salary does not establish uniqueness.

Everybody’s Got a Guy

Ours still need somebody to throw the ball.

Collins & Washington

Han’s offensive engines and our most important Captain comparison. Salary makes both quarterbacks plus both receivers expensive; the full four-player core was tested, including Schultz Captain with Moreau.

Marks & the pass rush

Rambo’s route away from the receiver story. Montgomery is out, but Jacksonville’s run defense supplies a real objection. Short fields and rushing finishes must do the work.

Ownership limitation: the October 15 screenshots show RST%, but their Captain/FLEX scope is not established. We do not present those numbers as verified slot ownership, claim a leverage edge, or attach a duplication probability. The large-field builds need their scoring paths to happen.

Inputs and model limits

Salaries come from the supplied HOU–JAX DraftKings export. October 15 RotoWire screenshots supply a dated comparison benchmark, not fresh Sunday projections. The three stories allocate production differently; they are scenarios, not measured win probabilities.

Captain/FLEX ownership scope remains unverified. Unused salary does not establish uniqueness. Noel’s workload is the repeated role risk, Moreau is the smallest-role saver, and the Texans-Captain alternate needs a defensive-touchdown path.
