From the Editor’s Couch

Friday lunch break. The boss thinks you’re finishing the week. The family group chat thinks you’re picking up dinner. Meanwhile, thirty-eight trucks are trying to merge into thirty-six parking spaces at 180 miles an hour. Welcome to Talladega.

Phoenix gave us a good night and a useful reminder: the expensive truck still needs five friends who can finish the job. This week, those friends also need to survive the commute.

The Garage Brief

No practice. No imaginary speed chart.

The official schedule goes straight to qualifying, listed from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Central. We’ll use the grid, equipment and relevant drafting history. A solo qualifying lap won’t settle who works best in traffic.

Smoke joins a crowded Ram garage.

Tony Stewart is entered in Kaulig’s No. 25 Ram alongside LaJoie, Haley, Queen and Tyrrell. That creates potential drafting partners—and shared exposure if the same pack gets collected. A familiar name earns a closer look, not an automatic roster spot.

Under the Hood

Eighty-five scheduled laps shorten the lap-leading opportunity compared with Phoenix. Our working Classic arithmetic gives the field at most 59.5 combined lap-bonus points before overtime: 85 × (0.25 led + 0.45 fastest). Cautions reduce fastest-lap opportunities; current slate scoring still needs confirmation.

That pushes our research toward finishing position, recovery and the cost of the entire six. A truck starting deep needs a credible running-and-finishing case. Salary left over needs no apology if spending it makes the roster worse.

Tires and conditions

Goodyear lists D-6102 left / D-6146 right and four dry sets, including the qualifying set carried into the race. Its October 20 release describes updated right-side construction for Trucks. Do not borrow the Cup tire change for this race. Friday afternoon’s Talladega forecast is sunny near 79°F at 3 p.m.; that is a city forecast, rather than a verified track-surface or wind measurement.

Three Ways Through Friday

Race story

Clean Air

Somebody has to drive this thing.

A contender gets to the front and stays useful while five supporting trucks finish well enough to justify the price. Heim, Riggs and Honeycutt lead the salary questions.

What breaks it

The expensive anchor loses positions or needs so much salary that the supporting five become passengers.

Race story

Two Trucks, No Waiting

Find a partner. Keep the receipt.

Two compatible contenders give us two finishing paths. Test actual team and manufacturer relationships, then compare what remains for the other four.

What breaks it

Both anchors share the same incident, or their combined cost weakens the rest of the roster. Teammates cannot both finish first.

Race story

Caution Tape

The commute gets ugly.

Recovery and finishing depth carry the story when cautions, fuel calls and restarts rearrange the order. The grid decides which prices can support that idea.

What breaks it

The deep starters lack the equipment to stay attached, or trouble reaches the supposedly safer part of the pack.

Everybody Wants the Fast Truck

Heim ($11,000), Riggs ($10,700) and Honeycutt ($10,500) set the premium. Eckes ($9,700), Majeski ($9,200) and Enfinger ($9,000) deserve whole-roster comparisons. Hemric ($8,100), Garcia ($7,700) and Ankrum ($7,300) return to the supporting-cast discussion with fresh assignments.

Stewart ($7,500), Sammy Smith ($8,300) and McFarland ($6,500) need their own equipment, experience and starting-position cases. Queen ($6,000) and Tyrrell ($5,400) also have to earn their seats after Phoenix. Cheap is a price, not a scouting report.

Shake and Bake

Afternoon review · October 23, 2026, 1:55 p.m. Central. Qualifying lap data is visible on NASCAR’s official leaderboard, but the accessible report does not establish a complete final starting classification. Jayski’s starting-lineup and qualifying-result links remain inactive in the reviewed page. Session completion, all 36 qualifiers and both nonqualifiers are not yet independently verified here.

We are holding the twenty model rosters and import CSV until the official field and current DraftKings scored starts, eligibility, scoring rules and exact lock reconcile. The supplied salary template contains 38 unique driver IDs and six D slots; it supplies no starting positions or lock time. Jason White’s No. 2 identity also remains to be reconciled with DK’s Jason M. White (CAN).

The next useful input is a current DraftKings driver-pool screenshot set showing every driver’s scored start and eligibility, plus the slate clock and rules. Official final qualifying results and any withdrawal or inspection notices complete the check. No garage all-clear is claimed: no verified current-race inspection or repair clearance was found in the reviewed reports.

The city forecast remains sunny near 79°F around the advertised 3 p.m. Central race time. No Truck practice has been verified as added. Qualifying speed alone does not establish drafting pace.

All three stories stay in the garage. Clean Air must justify limited recovery upside; Two Trucks, No Waiting must beat the supporting four it costs us; Caution Tape favors credible recovery without pretending deep starters are wreck-proof. Compare the whole six, vary the supporting cast and test shared accidents. Phoenix’s 8/8/4 split is not this week’s allocation.

Gentlemen, Check Your Lineups

Before lock: remove nonqualifiers, reconcile official positions with DK scoring starts, check rear-of-field penalties separately, confirm current prices and IDs, review weather and repairs, then read the actual app clock. A physical move to the rear does not automatically change the fantasy scoring start.

Sources, salary pool and update notes

Source review: October 23, 2026 · 1:55 p.m. Central. Final grid and live DraftKings inputs remain unverified. Official entry-list spelling “Jason White” is provisionally matched to DK “Jason M. White (CAN)”; confirm the No. 2 identity before roster release. All other salary-pool names have corresponding entry-list names, allowing capitalization variants. Eligibility remains conditional on qualifying.

The submitted DraftKings salary file is the price/ID source. No calibrated point forecast, ownership percentage or race probability is asserted.
